Our architects David Ekroth and Rick Alfandre have complete renderings of the exterior of the building. Plans are now being drawn for presentation to the Town Planning Board for approval to build.
The Building Committee has been meeting a bit less frequently (every other week) as we move toward building approval, and then decisions on the interior of the building.
Final dollar amounts of the building cost will be obtained, based on fundraising efforts, and green features selected. The Committee has moved toward seeking LEED certification for our building. We might be able to obtain Silver level (the lowest) based on the green features being selected so far. We might even reach Gold level depending on fundraising efforts. The UUCRT Board has approved the $450 application fee. We will know better come this fall once the major fundraising efforts are completed, as to whether we can pursue this designation. Going for a LEED certificate is the ultimate commitment in living our seventh principle, and may help us obtain donations otherwise restricted because we are a religious organization.

"Dear Jim,
I am very pleased to confirm in writing the message of
our telephone conversation today. The UUCRT Board of
Trustees had voted to enter into a contract with Zion
Church Builders to construct our new building at 9
Vance Lance, Rock Tavern, NY."
So began my recent letter to Jim Hinze of Zion Church
Builders in Mattawan, MI. You may think it is strange
to hire a builder from so far away. Let me explain that
this is a company whose ministry is to build churches,
and that is all they do. In forty states, for the past
forty five years. Ask any committee member for our
impressions and understanding of Zion. I think you
would agree that we are indeed fortunate that Peter
Kean discovered this company when researching on the
internet.
